Devotion to the Community

Chris Dickey is absolutely right, “The only outcome I desire is a constructive and democratic process by which we attempt to make this valley a place where we continue to want to live, and a place where we can continue to be able to live.” I believe that is the sentiment of most folks in Gunnison County, to be able to continue to make a living and enjoy the Gunnison Valley.

The democratic process allows for choices and the Republican Party is excited to support two strong candidates, Doug Sparks and Erich Ferchau, for County Commissioners. On the 4th of July both Erich and Doug began their campaigns with a BANG! They participated in the parade at Crested Butte and spoke with their constituents at the Rotary’s Party in the Park in Gunnison.

Being a public servant is a difficult job, campaigning is a cumbersome task, and elections can be a long, daunting process. Let us embrace the opportunity to engage in the American process of voting for our leaders. We are very fortunate to have this freedom.

Sparks and Ferchau are examining the County Budget, reviewing County Policy and Procedures, investigating economic options and engaging the community for their input and support. Their character, their strong and clear vision for the future and their concern for the well being of the working class will serve this community very well. Please take the time to meet with them and learn of their strategies and commitment to the Gunnison Valley.

Thank you for your time. Be sure to get out and cast your vote.

Mark Hillman's Blog points a finger at some Colorado politicians for helping OPEC keep our energy prices high.

A full delegation plus alternates

added their votes and opinions to the thousands of attendees

at the 2008 Colorado Republican Convention.

Our delegates participated in every vote

and issue brought to the floor.

As you can see, the Gunnison County group was right in the middle of the action.

I am a Republican Because….

I believe it is important to respect each person's ability, dignity, freedom and responsibility
I believe individual initiative must be encouraged in getting things done.
I believe government exists to protect the freedom of each person, not restrict it.
I believe people who cannot provide for themselves deserve help and also deserve to be helped to become self-supporting citizens who can take pride in their self-reliance and independence.
I believe equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity are everybody's rights.
I believe respect for laws, the courts and Constitution are vital to preservation of the nation and security for the citizen.
I believe excessive taxation, inflation and government waste can destroy our country; government must maintain sound money and a responsible economy.
I believe while we remain militarily strong, we must continue our efforts toward world peace and friendship.

These principles reflect a Republican's basic beliefs. Republicans have held firm to these principles for nearly a century and a half. The nation needs more Republicans today so our nation can be stronger tomorrow. That's the best reason to be a Republican.

In November, 2007, concerned citizens from throughout the valley were given a tour of the Luck Jack Water Treatment Plant. We wish to thank Keith for his time and thoughtfulness. Our tour was informative, thorough and given graciously.

During the tour current permits, storm water, iron fens, pH balancing, polymers, effluent water, Coal Creek quality monitored by Coal Creek Watershed Coalition, sand filters, “impressive redundancy,” employee training, trash containment and much more were explained. The group saw how larger solids are formed and removed from the water. Keith, a graduate from WSC, answered numerous questions enthusiastically and always with a smile on his face. The group learned plant history, were informed of current updates, reclamation and future improvements.

Those who attended the tour were impressed by the professionalism and courtesy of the attendants. If you are interested in seeing first-hand what the facility does and the quality it maintains, contact the Lucky Jack Office in Gunnison or email info@luckyjack.us.

Four county citizens who were curious about the facts at the Lucky Jack were on the tour. Left to right were Helen Marshall, Rebecca Rose, Cory Watt, and Carolyn Summers.
